I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Barbara, a 45-year-old housewife and mother who unwittingly finds herself doing some amateur sleuthing. Her husband, rather inexplicably, has just left her, so rather than wallow in 'I'm fat, forty and single' misery, she manages to convince two of her friends to help her out, when one night she sees, of all things, a monkey in her yard. Determined to get to the bottom of why there is a night-strolling primate in the neighbourhood, she, her friends and a PI (who also happens to be her ex-boyfriend) find themselves unwittingly embroiled in an FBI undercover operation. It's very funny, there are some great quips, and Barbara is hilarious and very lovable. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, it's fast-paced and Karen Cantwell has a fun, warm-hearted and entertaining style. A real treat.
If I hadn't already read "Take the Monkeys....", your review would definitely make me want to read it. I read that one and her next one (name escapes me at the moment) - also good. N
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those books that I would read again if I needed some light relief and a smile. I really enjoyed, very funny, extremely silly and nicely written! Good review, Cathy!

ReplyDeleteI read this and also the second Barbara Marr mystery, Citizen Insane. Both are really funny.
